Why Fans Are Eagerly Awaiting Rental Familys Digital Release

Directed by Japanese filmmaker Hikari, Rental Family is a new comedy-drama film starring Brendan Fraser as Phillip Vandarploeug. The film first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2025, and is now out in cinemas starting November 21, 2025. Fans are now wondering when the film will come out on digital platforms and be available to stream.

When could Rental Family’s digital release date be scheduled?

Hikari’s Rental Family comes out in theaters in the United States on November 21, 2025, and in other countries in January 2026. The plot of the film follows an American tutor, Phillip Vandarploeug (Brendan Fraser), who gets a job at a Japanese “family rental” agency. His job description includes posing as a family member for strangers, leading him to form new genuine bonds. Distributed by SearchLight Pictures, the film could see a digital release sometime around two months from its theatrical release. Considering previous SearchLight release patterns, The Roses, which came out in theaters on August 29, 2025, saw a digital release (PVOD), two months later, on October 21, 2025. Similarly, The Complete Unknown, another SearchLight Pictures film, came out in theaters on December 25, 2024, and digitally on February 25, 2025. Hence, Rental Family could also get a digital release, two months later, around January 20, 2026.

As for the streaming release date, which is typically a Thursday, The Roses became available to stream on Hulu on November 20, 2025, while The Complete Unknown started streaming on March 27, 2025. Hence, following the same pattern, Rental Family will possibly become available to stream on Hulu around February 26, 2026.
