Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched to Southern Trace neighborhood at 1:28 p.m. Sept. 24, on reports of a loud boom.

Within seven minutes fire units were on scene and discovered the home in the 10000 block of Longfellow Trace on fire. According to Chief Clarence Reese, the fire is believed to have started following a lightning strike.

Upon arrival, Shreveport Fire Department called a second alarm due to the size of the home as well as the history of the neighborhood. This is the second house this year to catch on fire in the Southern Trace neighborhood.

Reese stated that the first fire in March was due to an electrical issue and this one is believed to be started by lightning.

25 fire units from Shreveport Fire Department and two from Caddo Parish Fire District 5 battled this fire. It was placed under control in 34 minutes and no injuries were reported.

Reese said no one was home at the time of the fire and the home is not a complete loss. He did say, “there is moderate to heavy damage to the home.”

This fire remains under investigation.
