
NORTHUMBERLAND – Two people were injured when a metal drum exploded during a bonfire on Saturday night, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a call of a loud explosion about 8:40 p.m. on Starks Knob Road in the town, according to a news release the sheriff’s office issued Sunday morning.
An investigation determined several people were having a bonfire when at least one metal drum containing combustible material exploded, according to the release. Deputies said a preliminary investigation indicated that the people present at the bonfire did not know the drum was there.

Two people with burn injuries were transported in a private vehicle to Saratoga Hospital for evaluation and treatment. Emergency medical services transferred one of the victims to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
