Toyota Recalls Nearly 394,000 Trucks over Rearview Camera Failure

Toyota is recalling approximately 393,838 vehicles in the US because rearview camera displays may fail, reducing backward visibility, and increasing crash risk, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall affects certain 2022–2025 Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid models, as well as 2023–2025 Sequoia hybrids. The issue traces to a software bug in the 14-inch center display; under certain conditions, the screen may go “half green, full green, or full black,” making the rearview camera image unreadable when reversing.

Toyota will address the defect with a free dealer software update to restore normal display function. Owner notification letters are expected to be sent by late November 2025.

In a smaller recall, about 6,000 2025 Tacoma 4WD trucks are being examined for potentially faulty front driveshaft joints. In those cases, Toyota says the part may be made of an improper material and could deform or break while driving, possibly impairing turning ability or, in certain conditions, causing a vehicle to move even while in park if the parking brake is off. Dealers will inspect the driveshaft serial numbers and replace affected components free of charge.

For the bigger recall, Toyota says the defect “may not meet a federal safety standard” when the image fails while reversing. The software fix is expected to be a straightforward update.

For owners affected, the first step is to confirm whether your vehicle is on the recall list (via Toyota’s or NHTSA’s recall lookup), then schedule the free update as soon as it becomes available.
