The Rolling Stones have new music on the way, though when it will arrive is as yet unknown. Earlier this summer, it was reported that the band could be back in the studio, and there’s now another bit of confirmation, though not directly from the group.

According to one of the band member’s sons, the legendary outfit may be closer to sharing material than expected. The Rolling Stones have typically spaced out full-length releases much further apart in the past few decades, but fans might not have to wait long for a follow-up to the group’s 2023 comeback Hackney Diamonds.

Marlon Richards Confirms Recording Work

The new hint comes from Marlon Richards, Keith Richards’ son, who confirmed the news in a Record Collector interview (via NME) that took place in May. “They’re in town right now, recording,” he stated.

In June, it was reported that Mick Jagger, the elder Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Steve Jordan had been working on a follow-up to Hackney Diamonds since April, with the band reportedly crafting 13 songs for the set. As Marlon put it, when asked what specifically the band was working on: “I guess an album – they have enough left over from the last one.” The troupe reportedly even shelved plans to tour in the summer of 2025 to focus on recording.

The Rolling Stones Recording Process

Marlon offered a few process notes as well. “They’re in Chiswick or somewhere like that; I think they’re nearly done.” He added a snapshot of how hard the musicians have been working as well, saying, “They still maintain these ridiculous hours: after lunch until, like, two in the morning.”

A Grammy Win Spurred the Band On

The group’s recent Grammy win seems to have added vigor to the recording process. The Rolling Stones won Best Rock Album at the 2025 show for Hackney Diamonds. “They gave them a Grammy, so now they’re all hyped up on that: ‘Oh, yeah – we can do another one like that! We’ve got more like that if you want…’. I think they’re doing the follow-up,” Marlon explained in the interview.

Hackney Diamonds

Hackney Diamonds arrived in 2023 and topped the charts in the United Kingdom and performed well globally. The set stood as the band’s first album of original material in 18 years, since A Bigger Bang in 2005, and its twenty-fourth studio effort overall.

The project featured the last recordings of drummer Charlie Watts, who died in 2021, and it also included an A-list cast of guests, including Lady Gaga, Elton John, Paul McCartney, and Stevie Wonder.

Touring Plans May Be Next

Touring could be back on the docket for the band as well. “I think they’re planning a tour of Europe,” Marlon suggested. The Rolling Stones were previously due to hit the road in 2025, but the dates didn’t materialize.
