Shreveport Police identify man wanted in mass shooting that happened last weekend


Shreveport Police Department has identified one of the suspected shooters in the mass shooting that occurred on Sept. 20.

Rasson Smith Jr., 21, has been identified as one of the shooters, and an active warrant has been issued for attempted second-degree murder. According to Shreveport Police Department, additional charges are likely as the investigation continues.

Police said Smith is a suspected gang member and is considered armed and dangerous. Multiple sources of information indicated that he has no hesitation with using a firearm.

Police believe additional suspects were involved, and further arrests and charges are expected as evidence develops.

What happened on Sept. 20?

Just after 2 a.m. Sept. 20, Shreveport Police Department was dispatched to the 1600 block of Poland Avenue on reports of a mass shooting.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a chaotic scene with two people dead and six injured. According to police, there were more than 150 people gathered in this location when gunfire rang out.

Through preliminary information it was suggested that the attack was targeted and multiple shooters were involved.

The intended target for the attack was struck but suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
