The Shasta County Coroner’s Office announced the name of a Redding motorcyclist who died after he led police on a high-speed chase and crashed his bike.
Christopher Michael Scott, age 35, died from major injuries last Wednesday, Sept. 10, the day after the crash, said Shasta County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tim Mapes.
Scott was driving the motorcycle on North Market Street — the bottom of Miracle Mile — before 6:23 p.m. on Sept. 9 when a Redding police office signaled for him to pull over for a vehicle code violation, according to Mapes and Redding police announcements.
Scott allegedly turned the motorcyclist westbound onto Benton Drive, sped up and fled, police reported.
The officer reported chasing Scott through the Benton Drive area until losing sight of him and his motorcycle, according to Redding police.

Shortly after the pursuit ended, Scott collided with a guardrail near Middle Creek Road, the south side of the Sacramento River. The impact threw him off his motorcycle, the county reported.
First responders took Scott to Mercy Medical Center in Redding. He died in the hospital before 6 p.m. the next day, said Mapes, prompting a visit from the county coroner.
Officers notified Scott’s next of kin before releasing his name, the county reported.
The coroner’s office scheduled a postmortem examination.
This case remains under investigation by the coroner’s office, the California State Highway Patrol and the Shasta County Multi-Agency Officer Involved Critical Incident Response Team — and inter-agency consortium made up of city and county law enforcement including the CHP.
