West Virginia (2-3) visits undefeated No. 23 BYU (4-0) for a Week 6 Big 12 battle at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo.

The Cougars aim to protect home turf and continue their undefeated run. On the flip side, WVU is trying to right the ship after two lopsided Big 12 losses.

BYU has thrived behind freshman Bear Bachmeier, who has thrown for 697 yards, completed 68% of his passes, and avoided interceptions through four games.

Their turnover margin is among the best in the Big 12, while West Virginia is towards the bottom in that metric.  The Cougar offensive line has done well protecting Bachmeier so far, but WVU’s pass rush — which blitzes 43.6% of the time, 6th highest rate nationally — will put that to the test.

West Virginia enters with a quarterback room in flux, or, some would say, chaos. Head coach Rich Rodrigeuz may turn to Khalil Wilkins tonight, who has limited passing stats (3-for-6) but has shown some rushing ability (16 carries for 106 yards).

The Mountaineers’ defense is allowing 32.5 points and 424.5 yards per game.  On offense, their run game may see help from the return of RB Tye Edwards (5.7 yards per carry career average) to support what will likely be a conservative aerial approach.

Prediction

This matchup looks tilted heavily toward BYU. Their explosive passing attack, home crowd energy, and favorable turnover profile make them strong favorites. WVU’s new QB, defensive vulnerabilities, and inconsistent offense make it hard to see them keeping pace. Expect BYU to pull away after a competitive first half.

Projected Score: BYU 34, West Virginia 17
