West Virginia (2-4, 0-3 Big 12) and UCF (3-3, 0-3 Big 12) meet in Week 8 at “The Bounce House” in Orlando as both teams hunt their first Big 12 win.
West Virginia is managing uncertainty at quarterback as starter Nicco Marchiol is expected to miss the season due to injury. In his place, WVU has tried Khalil Wilkins, Scott Fox Jr., and Jaylen Henderson in various looks. Wilkins, a freshman, is a dual-threat option who led the team in rushing in his first start, though his passing was erratic.
Defensively, WVU has struggled in conference play. They rank 129th in third-down conversion allowed, giving up too many extended drives. West Virginia’s passing game has also been light: through six games, they’ve recorded only one 200-yard passing game. Still, receiver Cam Vaughn has been a standout, averaging 16.8 yards per reception this season.
UCF, meanwhile, is also struggling in Big 12 play. They dropped a 20-11 decision to Cincinnati in their last game, showing flashes but failing to sustain offensively. Their RB Myles Montgomery is a bright spot: he leads the Knights with 434 yards on 86 carries and has scored three touchdowns. UCF is 30th in the country, averaging 200.3 rushing yards per game.
In the passing game, Tayven Jackson has thrown for 906 yards, 3 TDs, and just 1 interception, while completing 64.5% of his passes. UCF’s defense is more stable. They rank 14th nationally in pass defense and allow only 30.8% third-down conversions.
Prediction
The key difference here is stability: UCF has fewer question marks at QB and a more consistent running game. WVU’s offensive uncertainty, especially in the air, makes them vulnerable.
Prediction: UCF 24, West Virginia 14
