San Jose State (2-4, 1-1 MW) and Utah State (3-3, 1-1 MW) face off in a Week 8 Mountain West matchup at Maverik Stadium in Logan, UT.

San Jose State leans heavily on its aerial attack, but could be without its two biggest offensive weapons: QB Walker Eget and WR Danny Scudero. Both are questionable after injuries suffered in last week’s loss to Wyoming.

Eget exited early despite a blistering start — tossing four first-half touchdown passes before leaving — while Scudero’s status remains uncertain after taking a hit late in the game. If either misses time, the Spartans lose not only their rhythm but also much of the spacing and downfield threat that defines their offense.

When healthy, Eget has been one of the Mountain West’s most productive passers, throwing for 1,820 yards, 13 touchdowns, and just 3 interceptions with a 61.9% completion rate. He ranks among the conference leaders in yards per attempt and passer rating (over 140).

Scudero, his top target, has emerged as one of the league’s most dynamic receivers, routinely surpassing 100 yards in games and ranking near the top of the conference in receiving yards per game.

Utah State QB Bryson Barnes is capable of creating with both his arm and legs. While the Aggies’ offense has shown balance, their defense has been leaky, allowing big plays and struggling to get off the field. The Aggies have converted just 29.2% of third downs (21-of-72) and continue to be one of the most penalized teams in the Mountain West (47). They were flagged 11 times in last week’s loss to Hawaii, where they went just 2-for-12 on third downs.

Prediction

If Eget and Scudero suit up, the Spartans’ high-powered passing game could pick apart Utah State’s secondary. But if either remains sidelined, Utah State’s combination of balance, tempo, and home-field advantage could be enough to swing the outcome in Logan.

Projected Score: Utah State 36, San Jose State 25
