PARKVILLE, MD— A 16-year-old ninth-grade student has been charged as an adult with a handgun violation following an incident at Parkville High School on Friday morning, according to the Baltimore County Police Department (BCoPD).

The incident unfolded around 11:30 a.m. at the school, located in the 2600 block of Putty Hill Ave. (21234), when school administrators attempted to search the student’s book bag.

According to tBCoPD, the student abruptly ran from the administrators. As the student fled the building, administrators reported seeing the handle of what appeared to be a handgun.

A School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to the high school quickly took the student into custody. Officers later located an unloaded firearm that the student had reportedly discarded during the escape. A subsequent search of the surrounding area led officers to locate a discarded magazine.

The identity of the student has not been released due to the student’s age, though the BCoPD confirmed the teenager is currently facing a handgun violation charge.
