New report says Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez has been charged with Jonathan Joss’ murder
A new development has surfaced in the investigation into the death of Parks and Recreation actor Jonathan Joss, as a grand jury has formally charged the man accused of the fatal shooting.
Five months after Joss was killed outside his San Antonio residence, prosecutors confirmed that 57-year-old Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez has been indicted on one count of murder. According to court records reviewed by Entertainment Weekly, the indictment was issued on November 17, 2025.
Authorities allege that Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez was responsible for the June 1 shooting that left Joss fatally wounded near the roadway outside his home. Police responded to the scene shortly after 7 p.m. and found the actor with life-threatening injuries. Soon after, Joss was pronounced dead. Ceja Alvarez was originally arrested that same month on a first-degree murder charge but was released after posting a $200,000 bond.
Following the incident, Joss’ husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, publicly accused their neighbor of carrying out the shooting after what he described as “years of threats” directed at the couple. He recalled that he and Joss were unarmed and standing together when the confrontation turned violent.
In a detailed story shared via Facebook, he wrote, “Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone…We were standing side by side. When the man fired, Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life…I will carry that forward. I will protect what he built.”
