A boy, 8, brought a handgun to school, according to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.

The student was showing the 9 mm handgun to his friends at Copper Basin Elementary in San Tan Valley, which is a part of the Florence Unified School District, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson JD Fitzgerald said. The incident happened on Sept. 22.

A school employee saw the handgun and immediately intervened, according to Fitzgerald.
