
EDGEWOOD, MD—The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is set to begin three simultaneous highway improvement projects across Harford County, starting as early as Sunday night, October 12, 2025. The work, which impacts US 40 in Edgewood, MD 924 in Bel Air, and MD 136 near Pylesville, is expected to cause daytime and overnight single-lane closures throughout the fall.
All three projects are scheduled to be completed by late November, weather permitting. MDOT SHA is urging drivers to use caution in the work zones and adhere to “Slow Down and Move Over” laws.
US 40 Resurfacing in Edgewood
The largest of the three projects is a $950,000 effort to mill and pave eastbound and westbound US 40 (Pulaski Highway).
- Location: From MD 152 (Mountain Road) to MD 24.
- Timeline: Through mid-November.
- Impact: Motorists should expect overnight single-lane closures from Sundays through Thursdays, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., and daytime single-lane closures on weekdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

MD 924 Pavement Patching in Bel Air
MDOT SHA will perform a $384,000 project to patch sections of pavement on MD 924 (Main Street/Rock Spring Road) in the Bel Air area.
- Location: From Broadway to MD 24/US 1 Business.
- Start Date: As soon as Wednesday night, October 15.
- Timeline: Through late November.
- Impact: Expect overnight single-lane closures with flagging operations on weeknights (Sunday through Thursday) from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

MD 136 Roadside Work near Pylesville
A smaller, $66,000 project for roadside grading will take place along MD 136 (Harkins Road).
- Location: The 1100 block of MD 136, just west of MD 24 (Rocks Road).
- Start Date: As soon as Monday morning, October 13.
- Timeline: Through late October.
- Impact: Drivers will face daytime single-lane closures with flagging operations on weekdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
