ESSEX, MD—The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is closing its Essex Licensing and Registration Service Center, effective October 10, 2025, due to a low volume of appointments.

The center, located inside the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration’s building on Eastern Boulevard, will stop accepting appointments after that date.

The DNR announced that the seven other licensing and registration service centers across the state will remain open on their regular schedules. The employees from the Essex location will be reassigned to other service centers, and the DNR plans to add a new service counter at both the Bel Air and Annapolis locations to accommodate more appointments.

The Essex center was unique among the DNR’s service centers in that it only accepted appointments on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, unlike most other locations that are open Monday through Friday.

Maryland residents and visitors can still purchase hunting or fishing licenses and renew boat registrations online via the “MD Outdoors” website or mobile app.

The remaining DNR service centers are located in Annapolis, Bel Air, Centreville, Cumberland, Frederick, Salisbury, and Solomons. More information about these locations and their schedules can be found on the DNR website.
