Michelle Monaghan talks about The Family Plan 3
Michelle Monaghan told The Hollywood Reporter there have been talks about a third Family Plan film. She said, “We’d all love to make a Family Plan 3. I think we’d all sign up for that.”
She emphasized the strong team and audience reception: “This is a film series that works, we’ve got an incredible creative team and audiences seem to really love it.” Monaghan recently attended the world premiere of The Family Plan 2 in London. Her character Jessica Morgan returns alongside Mark Wahlberg’s Dan Morgan in an international setting.
The original film, directed by Simon Cellan Jones and written by David Coggeshall, became Apple TV’s most-watched original. It follows the Morgan family as they confront Dan’s covert past. Monaghan noted the ensemble focus: “Everybody is active… the family all has to depend on each other.” In the sequel, the family travels abroad to visit their daughter Nina, who is studying overseas. The action includes a Paris car chase and a foot race where Monaghan’s character outruns Wahlberg’s.
Monaghan highlighted her motivation for choosing the role: “I’ve done a wide range of work in my career, but I can count on one hand the number of projects that my kids can actually watch.” She showed the film to her son’s class and highlighted her favorite line: “There’s nine other events, b—-.”
She recently reunited with Mission: Impossible III collaborators Tom Cruise, J.J. Abrams, and Paula Wagner, saying, “I said thank you to [Tom] for the impact that he’s… had on so many individual careers, most certainly mine.” Monaghan remains close with The Path co-star Aaron Paul, saying, “He’s one of my best friends… as a brother, husband and friend.”
