MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man wanted in a deadly shooting in the Cooper-Young area last year shot and killed himself while trying to evade officers on Monday, according to police.
Thursday, the MPD identified the man as 19-year-old Jaxx High. They said High was the suspect who shot himself Monday at the Wendy’s on Highland Street when officers tried to take him into custody.

He was taken to Regional One, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said High was charged with second-degree murder after a man was gunned down in the Cooper-Young Area of Midtown in July 2024.

A man was pronounced dead on the scene, and a woman was taken to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition.
Last year, neighbors told WREG the home where the shooting took place had been a short-term rental for a while, but it had never been a problem before.
“There are several [short-term rentals] around the neighborhood. I heard some of them maybe have problems, but I have not heard of any close to me that have,” said a neighbor.
“Obviously, Memphis has some gun violence, but I do not know if they were from out of town or if they are from Memphis. I don’t know,” said the neighbor.
WREG reached out to Airbnb last year, and they told us that the property at this address had not been rented out via their platform at the time this incident happened.
