Love k-pop but wish you had a better idea of what those lyrics meant? Or perhaps you’d like to watch your favorite Korean drama without having to read all the subtitles. A workshop given by The Korea Society offers k-media fans a chance to learn Korean grammar, expressions and culture via first through fifth-generation idol groups, solo artists, drama sound tracks and classics. Lyrics will be used to guide participants in uncovering everyday language, cultural references and advanced grammar patterns.
The short-term k-pop language workshop takes place on Nov. 6 and 13, with all classes being held online on Zoom. Featured artists include BTS, NCT, H.O.T., Girls’ Generation, EXO, SEVENTEEN, NewJeans, TWS, All Day Project, AKMU, and J-Rabbit. Each lesson highlights key grammar points and expressions, with opportunities to discuss how music reflects Korean society and daily life. On Nov. 6 participants can explore several k-pop songs by SEVENTEEN, 1-LIT, BTS, AKMU, TWR and H.O.T. On Nov. 13 fans can learn more about parts of various k-pop songs by artists such as IU, Girls Generation, OLDEF, Zion.T and NCT.
This workshop is recommended for students at Beginner 3~4, Beginning Conversation 1~2, Intermediate, and Intermediate Conversation 1~2 levels.
The Korea Society is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) organization which promotes greater awareness, understanding, and cooperation between the people of the U.S. and Korea. The Korea Society hosts a variety of programs that focus on Korean culture, including talks with Korean authors and artists, and a variety of language programs from their regular 10-week courses to short term workshops such as the K-Pop Workshop.
