The music industry resets every Friday, when most albums and songs are released, so that they will have a full seven days racking up streams and sales and impact charts a week later. Two of the biggest names to emerge from vocal groups of the past few years score a high-ranking smash this Friday, as Blackpink star Jisoo and former One Direction singer Zayn team up for “Eyes Closed,” a joint effort that has proved to be a global bestseller right out of the gate — one that could be destined for a lofty start on the Billboard rosters in a little over a week.

“Eyes Closed” Starts Strong on iTunes

As of the time of writing, “Eyes Closed” appears at No. 3 on the iTunes Top Songs chart, which ranks the bestselling digital downloads in the United States and is regarded, even to this day, as important to where albums and songs eventually launch on the Billboard tallies. At the outset of this tracking period, “Eyes Closed” scores the second-highest arrival.

Only one tune, “Fruit Bat” by alternative folk outfit Of Monsters and Men, beats the pair. That cut holds at No. 2, but this ranking could change as Friday progresses and fans of Jisoo and Zayn head to the platform to snap up the duet.

“Golden” From KPop Demon Hunters Remains on Top

The iTunes Top Songs chart is still led by “Golden” from Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters. That cut, which is also comfortable at No. 1 on the Hot 100 — at least for the next few days, until Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” almost certainly starts in first place — has been a bestseller for months now.

Six newly-available tunes appear inside the top 10 on the iTunes roster. In addition to “Fruit Bat” and “Eyes Closed,” songs from David Gilmour, Demi Lovato, and Mobb Deep, Nas, and Jorja Smith all appear inside the highest region.

Jisoo Returns With Her First Solo Single of 2025

“Eyes Closed” marks the latest solo tune from Jisoo, and it arrives several months after she stopped promoting her solo EP Amortage, which dropped in February. Since Blackpink’s last era concluded a number of years back, all four members of the band have delivered solo projects, though Jisoo is the only one who has yet to record a full-length.

Amortage was supported by the single “Earthquake,” which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart, though the EP itself underperformed. For the moment, “Eyes Closed” appears to be a standalone cut, although that could change in the coming weeks and months.

“Eyes Closed” represents Zayn’s first new music drop of 2025. Last year, the former One Direction vocalist promoted his fourth solo album Room Under the Stairs, which saw him explore a softer rock and country-leaning sound. That choice took him away from the hybrid of pop and R&B that anchored his three previous projects, Mind of Mine, Icarus Falls, and Nobody Is Listening.

Blackpink’s Comeback Continues With “Jump”

Jisoo’s latest single arrives as Blackpink’s comeback continues. In July, the K-pop girl group dropped “Jump,” its highly-anticipated first single in years. The hard-style electro dance-pop cut became a huge hit on Billboard’s global rankings and dance- and electronic-specific tallies, while it peaked at No. 28 on the Hot 100.

Blackpink Fans Await the Group’s Next Full-Length

“Jump” is believed to serve as the lead single from a new Blackpink project, although no new music has emerged in months. Amidst a global world tour, the K-pop outfit hasn’t shared additional details about a forthcoming chapter, though now mixed messages are being sent as both the troupe and Jisoo alone are promoting music. Often, even in the K-pop space, where output is often intense, members of a band and the group itself don’t often compete in this manner.

Blackpink has not dropped a full-length since September 2022. More than three years ago, Born Pink debuted atop the Billboard 200, giving the girl group its first champion in America.
