WASHINGTON D.C.—The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert on October 7, 2025, for specific ready-to-eat meals containing riced cauliflower that may be contaminated with the harmful bacteria Listeria monocytogenes (Lm).

The alert affects meals produced by FreshRealm and sold under the Blue Apron and Marley Spoon brands. A recall was not requested because the products are no longer available for purchase, but FSIS is concerned they may still be in consumers’ homes.

Affected Products

The potential contamination was discovered after FreshRealm notified FSIS that the riced cauliflower ingredient, which is regulated by the FDA, tested positive for L.monocytogenes.

Consumers are urged not to consume the following products and to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase:

The Risk of Listeriosis

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions associated with the consumption of these meals. However, infection with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious and potentially fatal infection.

Listeriosis primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Symptoms typically include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions, sometimes preceded by gastrointestinal issues like diarrhea.

For pregnant women, the infection can lead to miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery, or life-threatening infection of the newborn.

What Consumers Should Do

  • Do not eat the affected meals.
  • Throw away the products or return them to the place of purchase.
  • Persons in high-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after consuming the contaminated food should seek immediate medical care and inform their healthcare provider about eating the product. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics.

This public health alert is not related to any current ongoing outbreak investigations. Consumers with questions can contact FreshRealm’s customer service hotline at 1-888-244-1562 or [email protected].
