Giant Eagle employee fired, police investigating alleged incident
There are still a lot of questions about disturbing allegations made against a former Giant Eagle employee regarding an incident that reportedly unfolded inside the store on Rodi Road.
Penn Hills police say they are actively investigating an alleged incident that happened three weeks ago, on September 17.
Giant Eagle told us on Wednesday that the team member in question has been terminated. A spokesperson released a statement to Channel 11:
“We are aware of an alleged incident that took place at our Rodi Road Giant Eagle, and we have been working with the local authorities as they investigate the matter.”
Shoppers were upset to hear about the accusations and hoped that what happened was an isolated incident.
“You come to a grocery store to be safe to get your groceries and go home and not expect to be violated in any way,” said Shaheed Baskin. “People slip through the cracks, so I can’t fault Giant Eagle at all.”
“You see it happen in other places, but you know, never in your backyard,” said Fran Coglio.
Channel 11 has reached out to the District Attorney’s office to see if charges have been filed.
