Four people were killed on Tuesday in an Israeli drone attack east of Gaza City despite the recently agreed ceasefire, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reports.

WAFA, citing medical sources in the coastal strip, reported that the drone opened fire on people in the Shejaiya neighbourhood.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), several individuals had approached Israeli positions and posed a threat to soldiers, which the military described as a violation of the ceasefire agreement.

The IDF stated that after repeated warnings were ignored, its forces opened fire, “eliminating the threat.”

The ceasefire has been in effect since last Friday and has largely been observed so far.

The military again urged residents of Gaza to stay away from Israeli positions.

Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire agreement in which the initial phase included the release of hostages held in Gaza and nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners as part of the peace plan presented by US President Donald Trump.
