HONOLULU (KHON2) — The City and County of Honolulu estimates that about 30,000 people will be at Kapiolani Park and the Shell for the Hui Hou Fiji tribute concert.

Some people wanted to make sure they got a good seat hours before the show even started.

“We came at like 5 o’clock this morning, we thought it was going to be packed but we’re like the second ones here from this morning,” said Desiree Rilveria, who is a Fiji fan up early for the tribute concert on Saturday.

But by 11 a.m., no parking stalls were left along Kalakaua or at the Honolulu Zoo.

People were seen saving stalls while others parked, had a BBQ, and waited for the gates to open so they could have a quick exit after.

“We got a bed to chill on and we have an area to sit down and relax before we go inside,” Shylen Kalilikane showed KHON2 the area she and her family had set up Saturday morning while waiting hours until the gates opened.

“I feel like there’s going to be a lot going on with all the people, yeah it’s going to be crazy,” she added.

The Honolulu Police Department made their presence known with hundreds of officers in and around Kapiolani Park Saturday afternoon.

The Honolulu Dept. of Emergency Management also had volunteers driving around with red lights on their vehicles to help assist with traffic control for the concert.

People also sat in line to get a good seat at 8 a.m.

And many people took advantage of the shuttle from Blaisdell that will continue running through 11 p.m.
