Des Moines Public Schools board meets after Superintendent Ian Roberts’ arrest

The Des Moines School Board is holding a special session Saturday, Sept. 27, at 5 p.m. to discuss Superintendent Ian Roberts’ immigration-related arrest.

Roberts, who has led Iowa’s largest school district since 2023, was arrested on Friday, Sept. 26. Federal officials have said a court had issued a “final order of removal” in May 2024 for the deportation of the Guyana native and longtime U.S. resident.

The Des Moines school board said it would “discuss this personnel matter in closed session. The Board will also take action regarding Dr. Roberts’ administrative leave status following closed session.”
