TOWSON, MD—Baltimore County is launching a series of free flu shot clinics starting this weekend, with County Executive Kathy Klausmeier and Health Officer Dr. Lucy Wilson urging all residents to get vaccinated.
The push to vaccinate the community comes as officials highlight the severe impact of the flu season last year. According to the Maryland Department of Health, the virus sent more than 85,000 people to the emergency room, resulted in over 4,600 hospitalizations, and contributed to 85 deaths across the state.
County Executive Klausmeier and Dr. Wilson set an example by receiving their own flu shots Thursday at a clinic for county employees.
“Getting your flu shot is one of the simplest ways to keep yourself, your family, and our community healthy,” Klausmeier said. “These clinics make it easy and free.”
Baltimore County Health Officer Dr. Lucy Wilson reinforced the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.
“The vaccine is extremely safe and continues to be the primary protection against contracting the flu,” Dr. Wilson said.
The vaccine is available to anyone six months and older at the county clinics.
