NATO member Estonia condemned Moscow for an “unprecedentedly brazen” violation of its airspace after three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets crossed into the country’s airspace on Friday.
The Estonian foreign ministry said the jets flew over the Gulf of Finland without permission and remained in the airspace for 12 minutes. The ministry has summoned Russia’s chargé d’affaires in Tallinn in protest.

“Russia has already violated Estonia’s airspace four times this year, which in itself is unacceptable. But today’s incursion, involving three fighter aircraft entering our airspace, is unprecedentedly brazen,” the country’s Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna told Reuters.
He added: “Russia’s increasingly extensive testing of boundaries and growing aggressiveness must be met with a swift increase in political and economic pressure.”
The latest incursion follows a series of incidents in which Russian drones crossed into Polish and Romanian airspace earlier this month. Those violations triggered alarm among NATO allies and renewed pledges to strengthen defenses along the alliance’s eastern flank.
The Kremlin has not publicly commented on the latest incident.
