
BEL AIR, MD—A 16-year-old girl was killed and a 17-year-old boy was seriously injured in a three-vehicle collision that also involved a school bus on Thursday afternoon, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office said.
The crash occurred shortly after 2 p.m. at the intersection of Route 543 and Crescent Knoll Drive.
According to a preliminary investigation, a vehicle traveling northbound on Route 543 had stopped to make a left turn onto Crescent Knoll Drive when it was struck from behind by another vehicle. The impact pushed the stopped vehicle into the path of a Harford County Public School bus traveling southbound.
The 17-year-old driver of the struck vehicle was flown to a local trauma center with significant injuries. His 16-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not been released.
The driver of the striking vehicle, a 39-year-old man, was not injured.
There were students on the school bus at the time of the crash. Six students were taken to a local hospital as a precaution, while the remaining students were evacuated and transferred to another bus.
The Harford County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit is still investigating the incident.
