Who made the list for The Sentinel’s first Students of the Week 2025-26?

A new school year is underway, prompting the return of The Sentinel’s Students of the Week, which highlights exceptional students from local high schools.

Each week, high school principals and staffers around Holland share their nominees. We share those honorees online Fridays and in print Sundays.

This week’s students were nominated for being leaders in their school buildings, showing great character, excelling in the arts and more.

Brianna Munoz, West Ottawa High School

Brianna is the leader of WENOW and began working before the school year started to get a pantry at West Ottawa up and running. She’s reorganized the pantry in partnership with other community groups, and helped create a system that’s supporting students at the high school. She’s also helping to educate and recruit more students to the club.

Zeeland West’s Ava Lemire hits the ball to a teammate during a volleyball match in 2023.

Ava is a leader in our building through her work on the student senate, in our student section and as an athlete. She’s such a positive presence, supporting her fellow students to create a positive school environment where “We. Experience. Success. Together.”

Miguel Cerda, Hamilton High School

Miguel is an incredible person who values work ethic and dependability and has great character. He competes in wrestling, is part of our early middle college education program with Hope College, and is an incredible member of our student body.

Zeeland East student Sierra zurBurg accepts an award for winning an art contest.

Sierra zurBurg, Zeeland East High School

Sierra is an exceptional student and leader. She’s in wind ensemble, marching band, and is a color guard section leader. She’s also a gifted artist, having won numerous awards. Sierra has been a member of the Art Honor Society for the past four years. What makes Sierra stand out is her character: she leads by example and is kind to everyone.

Andrew Legg

Andrew Legg, Holland High School

Holland High School is proud to recognize Andrew Legg as our Student of the Week. Andrew exemplifies excellence through his academic achievement, leadership, and character. In the classroom, he’s dedicated to learning, taking AP classes and maintaining a GPA over 4.0, consistently striving for excellence and setting a positive example for his peers.

Beyond academics, Andrew is a leader on the soccer team and a multi-sport athlete at Holland High. He’s also an active member of the HHS Student Senate, the National Honor Society, and the Holland Youth Advisory Council, where he uses his leadership and voice to make a positive impact on both his school and community.

His kindness and respect for others are evident in his daily interactions, making him not only a strong student but also a valued friend and role model. Andrew’s commitment, leadership, and compassion truly reflect the best of Holland High.
