Coming into Monday’s matchup with the division rival Phoenix Suns, the Los Angeles Lakers were winners of seven straight games. LeBron James and company were looking to make it eight wins in a row while improving to 16-4 on the season, but they didn’t anticipate a frisky Suns squad looking to take advantage of the red-hot Lakers on the second night of a back-to-back set.
Despite losing star guard Devin Booker earlier in the contest due to a groin injury, the Suns were able to lean on veteran Dillon Brooks to help lead the way against the Lakers, as JJ Redick’s squad had no answer for the 29-year-oldforward.
Along with James struggling to score in this game, with only six points early in the fourth quarter, Brooks, the longtime rival of the Lakers’ superstar, was loving rubbing it in while racking up the points on Monday at Crypto.com Arena.
Suns’ Brooks Mocks Lakers Superstar After Dunk
After leaking out for an easy dunk with James trailing, Brooks couldn’t help but mock the four-time NBA champion, exaggerating the patented shrug after throwing it down, via Hoop Central’s X account.

At the time of writing this article, Brooks was leading all scorers in the fourth quarter with a game-high 33 points while the Suns were sporting a double-digit lead. While Luka Dončić eventually finished with a game-high 38 points, he couldn’t prevent the Lakers from slipping to their first defeat in eight games.
Leading up to the fourth quarter, it seems as though the Lakers just couldn’t keep up with a very motivated Suns squad looking to pull off the upset over one of the hottest teams in the NBA.
Phoenix is desperately trying to end a two-game skid after losing to Western Conference heavyweights in the Oklahoma City Thunder and Denver Nuggets.
Needless to say, the Suns faced a gauntlet by going up against three of the best teams in the league in consecutive games, but were clearly up for the challenge against the Lakers, who couldn’t come out with the same energy in the second game of the back-to-back.
Along with Brooks, Collin Gillespie turned it on in the fourth quarter, draining three-pointer after three-pointer while keeping Dončić and company at bay. Win streaks in the NBA don’t last forever, and the Lakers’ impressive seven-game streak also came to an end on Monday night in front of their fans in Los Angeles.
