Zootopia 2 is off to a huge start in China, and early numbers suggest the sequel may break several major box office records. Reports from box office analyst Luiz Fernando show that the movie is performing far better than expected and is even challenging records once held by some of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters.

The film has already passed the $100 million mark worldwide in just two days. With strong interest from international audiences, industry sources expect the movie to finish its opening weekend above $250 million globally.

If these numbers hold, the sequel could deliver the biggest single-day earnings for a Hollywood movie anywhere in the world, something no animated film has come close to before.

China is the main engine behind this massive wave of success. Fernando reports that Zootopia 2 earned about $87 million from more than 350,000 screenings on Saturday alone. Over its first three days, the film reached around $94 million in the country.

If the momentum continues, Saturday’s total is expected to end between $115 million and $130 million. Those numbers would put it ahead of the record set by Avengers: Endgame, which earned $107.2 million on its opening day in China.

Ticket sales also show strong interest from the general public. Around 40% of the tickets were bought before release, while the remaining 60% came from walk-in audiences—another sign that the hype is growing rather than slowing down.

If these projections hold, the Zootopia sequel could become the highest-grossing single-day release for a Hollywood film in any country. The current record belongs to Avengers: Endgame, which also had a massive $97.5 million opening day in North America.
