The Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays face off tonight in a winner-take-all Game 7 of the 2025 ALCS at Rogers Centre.
Seattle battles for its first World Series appearance in franchise history, while Toronto looks to return to the Fall Classic for the first time since 1993. Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers await the winner of tonight’s game.
The Mariners spoiled an opportunity to take the series last night, falling to the Jays 6-2. The series has been defined by blowouts — five of six games decided by at least five runs — with the lone exception being Seattle’s 3–1 win in the opener. If that trend holds, whoever strikes first tonight could seize control early and never relinquish it.
George Kirby gets the call for Seattle in this decisive Game 7 — his third career start in an elimination game.
As a rookie in 2022, Kirby threw seven scoreless innings against the Houston Astros in an 18-inning marathon that ended Seattle’s season — but he did his part.
Earlier this postseason, he delivered five strong innings in a must-win Game 5 against the Detroit Tigers. Kirby’s calm presence and command in big moments have made him Seattle’s go-to arm when everything is on the line. Speaking to reporters this week, Kirby said, “I love pitching under pressure.”
But he was rocked by the Blue Jays in his first start in this series, surrendering eight runs in four innings.
Shane Bieber, the 2020 AL Cy Young winner and a late-season acqusition from the Cleveland Guardians, gets the start for Toronto. Bieber was sharp in Game 3, tossing six innings of two-run ball with eight strikeouts. With his postseason experience and steady demeanor, the Blue Jays trust him to set the tone in the biggest game the franchise has played in more than three decades.
Prediction
Kirby has excelled in moments like this, but has shown vulnerability against the Blue Jays. Expect them to take advantage of him at home and move on to face L.A.
