ABINGDON, MD—Motorists traveling on U.S. Route 40 (Pulaski Highway) in Harford County should expect daytime and overnight lane closures starting as soon as Thursday as the State Highway Administration begins cleaning and painting a bridge over Otter Point Creek.
The work on the US 40 bridge, located near Maryland Route 24 (Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway), is expected to be completed in early November, weather permitting.
Crews will implement single-lane closures with flagging operations on both eastbound and westbound US 40. The closures are scheduled to run weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and during overnight hours from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.
Officials warned that the roadway shoulders will be closed 24 hours a day in the work zone. Automated speed enforcement will be utilized at the site, and the speed limit will be enforced at 45 mph.
The $394,000 project is part of a larger $2.8 million contract for bridge cleaning and painting across Baltimore and Harford counties. Reglas Painting Co. of Dundalk will perform the work.
The State Highway Administration urged drivers to plan for extra travel time and to use caution in the work zone.
“The State Highway Administration is serious about safety and asks drivers to slow down and move over, if possible, in work zones and pay extra attention to pedestrians and bicyclists,” the agency said in a statement.
