Who Made It — and Who Didn’t
The seeds were finalized after Sunday’s games, with the Toronto Blue Jays clinching the AL East and a first-round bye, and the Cincinnati Reds locking down the sixth seed in the NL after winning a tiebreaker to face the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will renew their historic rivalry in the Wild Card round, while the Cleveland Guardians host the Detroit Tigers in an all-AL Central showdown.
In the National League, the Chicago Cubs will face the San Diego Padres at Wrigley Field.
On the outside looking in: the New York Mets, who miss the postseason after a spectacular collapse — despite the signing of superstar Juan Soto.
Postseason Format
The 2025 MLB postseason features 12 teams — six from each league.
The top two division winners in each league earn first-round byes. Those teams are the Blue Jays, the Seattle Mariners, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Philadelphia Phillies.
The remaining four teams in each league play in a best-of-three Wild Card Series, with all games played at the home of the higher seed. Winners advance to the Division Series (best-of-five). The League Championship Series and World Series are best-of-seven.

All Wild Card Series begin on Tuesday, September 30. Game 2s are slated for Wednesday, October 1, and if necessary, Game 3s on Thursday, October 2.
