At least two people are dead after a gunman opened fire at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office in Dallas on Wednesday morning, police said.
The gunman died from a self-inflicted shot, federal authorities said.
There were conflicting reports about the number of victims from the shooting, which Dallas Police responded to around 6:40 a.m. local time.
Police said two people were transported to a hospital with gunshot wounds after the attack.
“One victim died at the scene. The suspect is deceased,” police said in an X post.
“The preliminary investigation determined that a suspect opened fire at a government building from an adjacent building,” said police, who plan to hold a news briefing later Wednesday.
An ICE spokesperson told NBC News that the gunman shot three people, killing two.
The spokesperson said the three victims are ICE detainees.
Deputy ICE director Madison Sheahan told Fox News, “As of now, we know that none of our officers have been injured.”
Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin told Fox, “We know that there were three fatalities, potentially detainees, not ICE law enforcement at this time.”

Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons said in a CNN interview that preliminary information suggests the shooter was a “possible sniper.”
“It’s just a sad time that we have to worry about violence against law enforcement,” Lyons said.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, in an X post, said, “While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them.”
“It must stop. Please pray for the victims and their families,” wrote Noem, whose department oversees ICE.
Noem initially said that the shooting took place at an ICE detention facility. But she soon edited her post to clarify that it occurred at a field office.
